It was David Lynch who once said that a film is 50% image and 50% sound. This means you should be spending as much time and attention on the sound of your films as you are with the visuals. Of the low budget films I’ve seen, sound is often the largest area of neglect.
Compelling sound can transform silly zombie animations into an experience with some impact.
Where to get free sound fx.
http://www.freesound.org/ has a whole gigantic library of free sound fx uploaded by its users. Many of them are of excellent quality. For my zombie animation, I used all sorts of effects found here: wolf howls, foot steps, snoring, yawning, even the zombie groan. There is not much you can’t find at this website. I didn’t have to record any of my sound effects for this project.
Just download the files you need and insert them into the timeline of your video editing software. Your short films will have a new life.
