The challenge is creating content

Apartment Marketing with Flickr

We posted recently posted an article, How Many Channels Can You Manage. The point of the article was to point out to our readers that web traffic and digital exposure to your brand or apartment community come from many different places. Most everyone has heard of Flickr and You Tube, yet how many apartment communities use either service effectively, or even at all?  As we pointed out in the article, our small boutique apartment portfolio, Urbane Apartments has garnished just under 700,000 overall views and averages 1,500 views per day at The Urbane Life Flickr page. The point being, your digital arsenal is more than Facebook alone.

Creating Content

The challenge is creating content. It is all well and good to preach about Flickr and You Tube as viable channels to help you rent more apartments, but if there aren’t compelling photography and cool video, there isn’t any reason for anyone to pay attention to you.

One way to generate content is to have some sort of photo contest. Put on your apartment marketing hat, and combined this with a Facebook contest and you can start to build two platforms at the same time. Just make sure you are following the Facebook rules and terms of service by using a third party application. We use Wildfire, it is easy and guides you through each step. It also becomes a collection point for the content you have gathered, making it easier to to transfer the content created (pictures) over to Flickr once the contest is finished. With a Flickr Pro account you can create organized folders by apartment community, or resident events.

Perhaps the easiest way to create great content is asking your resident base. Without question, there likely is a multitude of amateur photographers in the mix. Using one of your apartment residents has a compound marketing effect, and a built in sharer of the content.
