Yesterday I spent some of my weekend free time volunteering at Detroit’s first Maker City Faire at The Henry Ford. I was proud to see our area host such an amazing event for the first time and when some of my PR friends needed last-minute volunteers, I was glad to help out.
I can’t wait to hear the final numbers because from what I witnessed yesterday and the guesses for attendance on Saturday alone – around 10,000 – it seemed to be quite a success. Of all the images – paint splattering, guitar windmills, marshmallow-shooters, bicycles built for multiples, swings that swing through sprinklers – I remember one faire-goer sporting a simple sticker that read “locally grown.” That really stuck with me.
After all, this is Buy Michigan Week. For those of us who eat local, shop local and heart our Michigan products and companies year-round it still serves as a great reminder to support our fellow businesses and products. The Urbane Way is also grown locally, and growing. We’ll welcome a new employee next week and are excited to do so.
