Who’s simply talking and who has Klout?

For the third and final installment in our series exploring new social media tools useful to the PR game, we gave Klout a spin. Quite simply put, Klout allows you to plug in your Twitter handle, or another twitter handle, and view who is driving the conversations surrounding it.

It’s all about influencers in the land of Twitter and Klout attempts to identify them with ease. It may not be a fool-proof system. Who’s to say? But it certainly allows users some insight into the way the Twitter user maneuvers through tweets, conversations and how he or she chooses to share information.

Choose whether you want to sign in for you score or sign up for more comprehensive information associated with your account – including your true reach, amplification and network ratings. For my account @Steph_Urbane, I’m considered a Syndicator:

You keep tabs on what’s trending and who’s important to watch. You share the best of this with your followers and save them from having to find what’s hot on their own. You probably focus on a specific topic or cater to a defined audience.

Yes, it reads a bit like a horoscope, but my topic summary included the words Michigan, Detroit, media and public relations – which seem awfully spot-on for this account. Klout has also been popping up on HootSuite as a score, which makes it easier to choose tweeps you may or may not want to follow back. Is it something you use to make that determination?
