The benefits of a getting business done at a co-work space

As I checked in on Foursquare at my office this morning it occurred to me – I feel really lucky to have all the benefits of working here at Urbane Space, a co-working space operated by my company The Urbane Way.

We’re a digital marketing company that’s growing fast with a clientele located across the country. As business partners, it’s not unusual for Corey Perlman and Eric Brown to be in different cities on the same day. We all connect by conference call regularly and in-person whenever possible.

As director of public relations and marketing, my office is primarily here at Urbane Space. I spend days, writing, tweeting, fielding calls and e-mails, planning and promoting events and much more. It’s an airy open environment that lends itself to creativity.

We’ve opened it up to welcome entrepreneurs and individuals from varied backgrounds and areas of expertise. At the co-work space desks, chairs and even iPod connections and speakers are first-come, first served – so to speak.

Keeping with the eclectic Urbane theme, our indoor picnic tables have electrical outlets. The conference room is a great space to meet and the living room is an even better place to brainstorm.

If you’re lucky, Henry Balanon might be around to crank up the grill at lunchtime or Shauna Nicholson might swing by with her dog Cooper to get some work done (because we’re pet-friendly). Urbane Space transforms into a great spot for parties and events, so we rent it out as such.

But I find it most useful as a place to meet interesting people and share innovative ideas. I’m always happy to see David and Jenni Murray stop in to work on Social Media Club Detroit, Future Midwest and other projects, and delighted to chat with Hubert Sawyers III (pictured above with me), founder of TweetTea. PickMIDate.com founders Erin Rose and Sean O’Brien frequent the desks on most weekdays, and have even been interviewed here on-the-spot. You never know who’s going to show up. And we quite like it that way.

If you’re ever curious to find out more about Urbane Space, feel free to stop by and see it for yourself. If co-working is an option for you, it might be just the spot you were looking for.
